Beware of Ice Dams

Ice dam on a roof This image is of an ice dam forming on a roof of a house.

The storms are rolling into to Eastern Idaho and they are definitely coming with a vengeance. The weather is wet and cold and the roofs are beginning to get heavy. Ice Dams are a very serious issue that can cause a lot of different problems with your roof and home.

According to www.thespruce.com, the best way to prevent an ice damn is:

  1. Ventilation under the roof deck, which keeps colder outside air circulation through the attic and prevents it from warming above the freezing point.
  2. Insulation in the ceiling below the attic, which will prevent warm air from rising up into the attic space.
  3. Blocking any hear sources that may be contributing to high temperatures in the attic.
